In 1998, I competed in the twentieth annual National Sculpture Competition, sponsored by the National Sculpture Society, the oldest organization of professional sculptors in the United States. Some refer to the event as "The Olympics of Sculpture". Applicants from around the country submitted slides that showed their best work. Judging was based solely on the quality of the work depicted, as the identities of the artists were not revealed. I won the first place award, the Roger T. Williams Prize. I received recognition in Sculpture Review, the National Sculpture Society magazine, as well as a cash award.

In 2001 an MGM representative spotted my sculptures Evolution and Aurora in a Boston area gallery and chose to incorporate them into the MGM film What's the Worst that Could Happen?

This scene from the film shows Detective Alex Tardio (William Fichtner) touching Evolution as he interrogates Max Fairbanks (Danny DeVito) and Gloria (Glenne Headly). The MGM comedy also stars Martin Lawrence as Kevin Caffery and Bernie Mac as Uncle Jack. The bronze cast of Evolution that appears in the film was later purchased and is now in a private collection.

In 2002 my sculpture Extension was selected to appear on the cover of Elizabeth Kirschner's book of poems, Slow Risen Among the Smoke Trees, Carnegie Mellon University Press.
