In 1995 I studied sculpture with Laci de Gerenday at the Lyme Academy of Fine Art. I asked him his opinion of a technical approach to sculpture of which I had learned. He listened patiently and in his gentle soft tone, with a twinkle in his failing eyes, he replied, "David ... feeling is the most important thing". This was good advice.

Sometimes people ask why I leave a tool mark, or don't add additional detail, and so forth. After years of experience, I now believe that when a painting or sculpture becomes fully effective to stop work. Any changes from the fully effective state invariably spoil, or otherwise diminish, the piece's impact.
